Chancellor Joel E. Anderson

Chancellor Joel E. AndersonDr. Joel E. Anderson became the Chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2003, having previously served as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and as the founding Dean of the UALR Graduate School.

Highlights of his service as chancellor have been completion of a $100 million comprehensive campaign, the development of the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology, the expansion of student housing, and enhancement of campus buildings and grounds. Under Chancellor Anderson’s leadership the university has maintained a close partnership with the greater Little Rock community and has emphasized offering programs that are tailored to meet state needs. He received the Jack Evans Regional Leadership Award in 2000 for leading the study that resulted in the merger of the Little Rock and North Little Rock water utilities. Recently he led in the establishment of the UALR Institute on Race and Ethnicity.

Dr. Anderson has served on the Executive Committee of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities and of the Sunbelt Conference. He is an accreditation Consult-Evaluator of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. His service on boards of directors has included the Arkansas 4-H Foundation, Arkansas Advanced Initiative for Math and Science, Arkansas Research Alliance, Arkansas Science and Technology Authority, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society, Fifty for the Future, Heart of Arkansas United Way, Little Rock Downtown Partnership, Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club of Little Rock.

Dr. Anderson holds degrees from Harding University (BA), American University, (MA), and the University of Michigan (PhD) in political science. He also completed the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University.
