Finalists Chosen in Search for UALR Chancellor Post

April 28, 2016 by Nate Hinkel

University of Arkansas System President Donald R. Bobbitt, with input from the Chancellor Search Committee he appointed in January, has selected three finalists for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock chancellor post.

Finalists include:

  • Cheryl D. Lovell, Ph.D., special advisor to the chancellor and to the chief academic officer of the Colorado State University System
  • Andrew Rogerson, Ph.D., provost and vice president of academic affairs, Sonoma State (California State University System)
  • Mark Rudin, Ph.D., vice president for research and economic development, Boise State University
Scheduling is underway to bring individual finalists to campus the week of May 9-13 to visit with faculty, student leaders, administrators, members of the UA Board of Trustees, community leaders and other stakeholders in finding a new leader for the metropolitan, research-intensive institution.
“I am very excited about introducing these individuals to the campus and to our capital city,” Bobbitt said. “I would like to thank the search committee for its speedy and thorough advisory work with the search firm, Greenwood/Asher, to identify and provide feedback to me about this impressive group of prospective candidates. UALR is a unique metropolitan campus within our System and I feel very strongly that all three of these candidates have a good understanding of the position and possess the skill sets to help lead it into the future.”
The search is to replace UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson, who is stepping down at the end of June after serving at the helm of the university for 13 years.
“As a committee, we feel like we had a top-notch pool of candidates identified and who were interested in the job,” said Bob Denman, recently retired vice chancellor of university advancement at UALR and chair of the search committee. “I was impressed not only by the amount of time and commitment put forth by the committee, but also by the national reputation the institution has earned, as evidenced by the conversations we had. I am confident we have helped identify the best group of finalists possible to help Dr. Bobbitt and the Board of Trustees ultimately find UALR its next great leader.”
Following the individual visits, Bobbitt will ultimately select a single finalist to recommend to the UA Board of Trustees. The board has final approval on the chancellor selection.
