President Silveria Honored with Senate Resolution

Sen. Clark Tucker and Lt. Gen. (retired) Jay B. Silveria(Monday, Jan. 27, 2025) LITTLE ROCK — University of Arkansas System President Lt. Gen. (retired) Jay B. Silveria was honored Monday on the floor of the Arkansas Senate with the passing of a resolution that welcomed the new president to Arkansas to lead the state’s largest university system.

Sen. Clarke Tucker introduced the senate resolution during the 95th General Assembly and called the Silveria family “new neighbors,” as the UA System – Cammack Campus reside within the district he represents.

“As you may know, the UA System Administration and the President’s  home are located within my district on land originally donated to the university by the Cammack family,” Tucker said. “So with the appointment of the Silverias to this new role, I am gaining neighbors. My colleagues and I look forward to working with you and to supporting the important work of the UA System under your leadership.”

Silveria was chosen to lead the UA System in November after longtime president Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt announced his retirement last summer. He began his role Jan. 15.

“My wife and I are truly excited to be here and look forward to learning more about this great state and meeting many of you here today,” Silveria said. “We deeply appreciate the warm welcome we’ve received and can’t wait to continue building on the high-quality opportunities the UA System provides for all Arkansans.”

The resolution acknowledges that Silveria, “brings an extensive resume, exceptional leadership skills, sound judgment, and steady temperament to provide guidance and direction to the state’s largest university system, including twenty (20) campuses, divisions, and units across the state …” and congratulated him on his appointment.
